This attraction in Riehen is relatively new: the Naturbad \u2013 designed by Swiss star architects Herzog & de Meuron \u2013 was opened in 2014. The swimming pool is located at the edge of Wiese Landscape Park\u00a0and blends in harmoniously with the green scenery. Wettsteinanlage is Riehen's most popular park thanks to its central location. Its centrepiece is the large, modern and varied playground with paddling pool. The historic areas near the Wettstein and L\u00fcscher Houses and the town hall are rather quieter and more sedate. In terms of historic garden conservation, the sections near the Wettstein and L\u00fcscher Houses are the most important parts of the park. The area is named after the Basel mayor Johann Rudolf Wettstein, who converted a former farmstead into a private estate here in the mid-17th century. The park was designed in the style of English landscape gardens in 1892. The somewhat misleadingly named Wiese river (Wiese is actually German for meadow) originates in the Black Forest. While the tributary of the Rhine is straightened, it can get quite wild when the water is high. Riehen's Kneipp facility is located in a shaded spot on the Immenb\u00e4chlein within the Wettsteinanlage Park. Wading \u2013 or \"Kneipping\" \u2013 is fun for all ages and gets the body's circulation going. It's even supposed to boost the immune system. The facility also includes a great playground with a paddling pool as well as a large meadow. The indoor pool is part of the Wasserstelzen school grounds and offers an 18 x 8 metre pool. The facility is open to the public three times a week from autumn until spring. Pool toys and flotation devices can be borrowed free of charge.<\/p>\r\n
